Hello everyone, if you read our last post, we shared about what to do in Auckland. We’d like to share about the food experiences we had. We basically ate around Britomart and the city as we only had 2 days there. Even though our dining area was confined to the city, we thought the choices were quite sufficient.
Ngopi – 79 Anzac ave
A not for profit restaurant run by volunteers cater to the students from Auckland uni provides homesick ones with dishes from home… great tasting char hor fun (fried rice noodle, chicken and egg gravy), nasi goreng (fried rice, prawn, chicken) were delicious and had ‘wok hei’! The place was nice and colorful, a good chill out place.
Oaken – 130 quay st
Looking for breakfast, lunch and dinner? This place serves up delicious fusion food from 7am and they have great coffee. We had breakfast there… kimchi chicken sandwich and some egg with sourdough and both were yums!
Better burger – 31 Galway st
Simple alfresco dining area, long queues during lunch is a popular fast food joint that claims to serve the best burgers in Auckland. Menu is really simple – hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger or mushroom burger. Add ons include bacon, fries, soda. Loved the fries. The double cheeseburger was nice but not great.
Milse – 31 Tyler st
Milse is what I’d call a dessert specialty restaurant. They have almost all if not everything sweet… starting from tarts, verrines, macarons, cookies, gelato sticks and cakes, gateaux, handmade chocolates and pralines, even dessert course. We really adored their macarons, exotic and interesting flavors and they were not too sweet.
The store – Galway st
This cafe serves seasonal fresh foods and is a bakery or takeaway on the other end. Very popular at lunch and super long queue at their take out side! Felt very ‘clean’ and healthy after trying their warm kale salad.
Kapiti – 19 shortland st
My favorite fig and honey ice cream and lots more flavors can be found here. The store also sells cheeses, crackers, biscuits and there were some seats for patrons.
Remedy coffee – 1 Wellesley st west
One of the best cafes in Auckland, is a very cosy small outlet which provides comfortable seating and a nice quiet place to rest after shopping and exploring the city.
Cafe Hanoi – excelsior building
Busy busy restaurant which does not take bookings unless for larger groups. Rather simple furnishings and dim lighting. Serves good but ‘adapted to the local taste’ Vietnamese food. Very noisy so do not expect a romantic date and not ideal for catch ups or meetings. We were sitting across each other in a communal table and had almost had to shout to each other resulting in an exhausting dinner.
