The Cathay which was opened in 1939, redeveloped and reopened in 2006 is a national monument with it’s signature facade ‘Cathay’ facing Bras Basah Road.
Located beside the SOTA (School of The Arts), the Cathay is a popular venue for the young and trendy and of course movie goers. Before a movie, we had a light bite at The Assembly Ground and did a little window shopping at the Assembly Store.
The Store (no photos) had some nice clothings, bags, accessories and unique items like cute little beard combs.
For brunch, gatherings, spend an afternoon or evening, the cafe is a good choice. When we were there just passed lunch time, about 3pm on a Sunday, there were ample seats.
There were a few items we’d like to try but we’re not hungry enough. We had some decent crab cake Benedict, root beer float and flat white.
We liked their food and service was good so would be back to try more of their dishes.
