Hotels in Berlin Germany

We’ve had the pleasure or not staying at 3 different hotels in Berlin. Ranging from the ‘not so budget’ to ‘luxury’. There’s always pros and cons at every hotel and we’ll share our qualms. They were Intercityhotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof; hotel Nikolai residence; Swissotel Berlin

Above photos from Nikolai residence website & Wikipedia for Swissotel Berlin

Intercityhotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof – business plus double room

  • Very near Berlin main train station
  • Spacious room for 2
  • Convenient all in one bath foam/ shampoo but hard to dispense
  • Very soft bed and pillow (we prefer firm ones)
  • Air con not working
  • No tea/ coffee making facility and no complimentary drinking water
  • Small toilet/ bathroom
  • Hotel staff not very helpful
  • Very slow internet or almost none
  • More than average price – €125 per night

Overall rating – 6/10

Hotel Nikolai Residence – double room

  • Good location at Nikolaiviertel – the historical area and very close proximity to Alexanderplatz (shopping haven)
  • Clean hotel and room but air freshener can be overpowering in common areas
  • Coffee/ tea making facilities provided
  • Inconspicuous, hard to notice if driving – taxi could not find and we had to lug our luggages to the hotel from a distance
  • Spacious and comfortable room with big toilet/ bathroom
  • No air con and with windows opened, was noisy with bells ringing from 7am and music on till midnight
  • No keycard so a room key is needed to enter building
  • Past 9pm, self check in applies (instructions provided by hotel)
  • Very soft pillows (we prefer firm)
  • Receptionist was not very helpful when we asked for directions
  • Intermittent and slow internet
  • Expensive – €185 per night

Overall rating – 6/10

Swissotel Berlin classic double room

  • Very spacious room, toilet and bathroom
  • Working air con kept the room cool
  • Coffee/ tea making facilities with Nespresso machine (capsules were not from nespresso though)
  • Firm pillows provided us with better rest
  • Located at the corner of ku’damm so convenient and is a shopping haven
  • Hotel staff were helpful and efficient
  • Gym available
  • Nice areas in the hotel to chill
  • Breakfast was average
  • Reasonable price – €155 per night

Overall rating – 7.5/10
