The stay at Kunja Villa

Kunja Villa Hotel & Spa is a small estate encompassing 18 private villas (1 bedrooms to 3 bedrooms). For those looking to spend time in a tropical paradise, this place could be a good choice. Out of the many choices in Bali, what made us choose this property…

  1. The location which was close to most of the cafes and restaurants we wanted to try
  2. The package which included daily breakfast, 1 dinner, 1 lunch, 1 special breakfast at La lucciola, 1 spa session of 2hr for two, complimentary airport transfer in a comfortable vehicle with cold towels/ bottled water/ wifi, complimentary pick up and drop off around Seminyak

Let’s start from the airport pick up. Our flight arrived early and the driver was not there. About an hour after we landed, he appeared. We were not sure if it was due to traffic or the hotel did not check the flight time. Anyway, the car made up for it. Once we were in the car, the driver offered cold towels and cold bottled water, then we realized there was wifi in the car, a bonus!

We arrived our villa 5 in less than an hour and check in was done in the villa. One thing I did not really fancy was that our passports had to be taken by the driver to the reception for a copy of their records and though they were returned to us within minutes, I was not so comfortable with it. Nothing happened to our passports

The pool, outdoor shower, kitchen, living area and storeroom (for surfboards or additional luggages)

The bedroom and bathroom – the bedroom was the only space in the villa with air con, so we spent most of our time in the room. Toilets are not air conditioned. We are partly thankful for that as we’re always freezing in an air con toilet in hotels but there were mosquitoes. Thankfully they also provide repellents.

It was a nice thought for all the petals on the bed and tub but we did not fancy those. We’d rather prefer clean and simple white beds and tubs.

The kitchen was quite well equipped. The staff prepare our meals in the villa so it was good that the kitchen was outdoors. Breakfasts were good but not as tasty, and pretty as Hu’u villa’s

Then our dinner by the pool was also another candle lit flowery affair. We could choose our set meals but dishes were not the same as described in the menus, so it was up to the chef. Soups were quite salty but the salads and mains were alright. They just tasted like simple home cooked dishes, nothing fanciful. We were served chocolate cake which were quite dry. And so we gave up the complimentary lunch altogether. We were quite glad we actually forgotten about the in villa dinner and had something to eat before we came back.

The spa was not too bad. As huby was not keen on spa/ massages, I had the same masseuse (Pradnya) for both times and tried the Balinese massage and foot reflexology then the next time was hot stone massage. Both were good. Here’s a shot of the treatment room. Simple but spacious.

Overall, we still enjoyed our stay and the staff were mostly prompt and friendly. Pick ups and drop offs were a big plus as sometimes it’s just too hot to walk for our meals. If the compound had no mosquitoes and the flexibility of having air conditioned living area, that would’ve been nice. Oh also another big plus, the hotel reservations staff booked all our restaurants, made changes per our requests promptly and without a hitch!
